The system is constructed to provide highly efficient, reliable, and secure wireless digital communications over any available “Wireless” communications media.  Support is provided for both traditional private rf radio digital communications and public wireless networks such as CDPD, GPRS, CDMA, and other emerging technologies.  PS.NET/MDC implements a private radio protocol designed to be highly efficient, secure, and provide guaranteed message delivery.  PS.NET/MDC uses highly optimized algorithms to insure maximum message throughput in any rf environment.  This private protocol includes data compression, encryption, prioritization, message piggybacking, and positive acknowledgment facilities.

    Bandwidth Constraints
The PS.NET/MDC workstation provides a highly optimized, specially designed mobile workstation that not only effectively manages low capacity data rates, but provides an optimized user interface for the field officer.   Over the past 10 years the industry has witnesses a remarkable evolution in wireless technology that has alleviated some of the mobile bandwidth concerns. However, even as wireless technology continues to mature, the current technology continues to severely limit the data rates available to Mobile Systems.  Based on connections types available within the Agency, the mobile workstations can configured to maximize network efficiency.

RF Infrastructure
The PS.NET/MDC application supports both public and private radio frequency and cellular digital networks.  Regardless of the connection utilized the PS.NET/MDC implements a sophisticated communication protocol designed to be highly efficient, secure, and provide guaranteed message delivery.  In comparison to modern LAN/WAN environments, most wireless communications facilities are severely limited in available bandwidth.  PS.NET/MDC uses highly optimized algorithms to insure maximum message throughput in any wireless or radio environment.  This private protocol includes data compression, encryption, prioritization, message piggybacking, and positive acknowledgment facilities.  Messages are packetized and optimized for the specific configuration implemented.

Mobile Workstation
The PS.NET/MDT workstation is specially designed to meet the requirements of the field officer, and incorporates a specially designed workstation software package that allows a standard laptop computer to efficiently handle radio digital communications while maintaining its full functionality as a personal computer. The workstation is highly optimized to meet the requirements of the field officer, and is not a remote clone of the LAN based desktop programs.

The workstation software implements the functions required to make the laptop computer into an efficient, easy to use communications terminal for field personnel. This includes large screen controls to facilitate visibility and touch screens, high contrast displays, single key-stroke operations, and many other features.
