PS.NET/Fire MDC - User Interface
Data where you need it most!
    Interface Features
Among others, the following features are incorporated in the workstation to facilitate ease of use:

WindowsSceen Shot Screen Shot
Multiple forms may be open concurrently. The application is constructed as a Windows Multiple Document Interface (MDI) application.  All Windows are contained within a master window.  This allows easy and rapid switching between the mobile workstation and other applications that may be running.
Operator controlled windowing of the display screen allows the field operator to interrupt work to respond to more pressing messages (such as dispatch messages), and return to the previous display without loss of data or context.

Dynamic Window Resizing
Visibility in the field environment is a major concern.  In addition to hardware selection, PS.NET/Fire MDC uses large fields and high contrast displays to enhance visibility.  The system also supports dynamically sized windows.  Windows can be dynamically sized by the operator or expanded to full screen to make maximum use of available display area and resolution for the laptop computers available.  All fields, labels, and other display elements expand or contract proportionately.

Keyboard Operation
In mobile applications it is often difficult to use a mouse or mouse substitute such as touch pads or joysticks.  The workstation is therefore highly optimized for keyboard operation and all operations can be performed from the keyboard with minimum keystrokes.  Command and function keys are allocated to help minimize typing requirements.

Fill-In-The-Blank FormsSceen Shot Screen Shot
"Fill-in-the-blank" forms are used to guide the operator through all data entry sequences.  The forms are stored locally for instantaneous display upon request with no rf channel overhead.  Since forms are displayed instantly, there is no loss of efficiency over free format input which requires memorization of expected data sequences and formatting by the operator.

Extensive form edits can be defined to help minimize data entry errors and eliminate error overhead on the radio channel.  Defined forms can be as long as necessary and are not limited to the size of the displayed window.
    MenusSceen Shot Screen Shot
The communication program incorporates vertical and horizontal menus as the primary operator interface.  These menus display all available command options to the operator.  The menus eliminate the necessity to otherwise memorize commands.  Commands may be selected from the menu with a single keystroke.

Comprehensive Help Facility
The comprehensive help facility not only aids new or occasional users who may not be familiar with the system, but also provides valuable reference data to the experienced user.  Access to the help facility is by a single key on the keyboard dedicated to that function.  The help facility is context sensitive and multi-layered.
